Indie Film Release Guide: September 6th [An ONTD Original]

This weekend’s box office is about to be absolutely dominated by ONTD’s favorite clown. But if you’re just not that into Pennywise, read on for some more options that may or may not be coming to a theater near you.

The films listed are from studios other than the “Big Six” - Paramount, Warner Brothers, 20th Century Fox, Universal, Columbia and Disney. Note that some of the movies listed are in their first week or two of limited release in the USA, so it may take them a few more weeks (or months) to show up in your local arthouse theater or on VOD. Ms. Purple

What you should know: Writer/director Justin Chon is also an actor, with many credits over the past fifteen years including a role in Twilight.

Genre: Drama
Plot: After her controlling husband dies, an elderly woman embarks on a trip to fulfill her longtime dream of climbing a mountain in the Scottish Highlands.
What you should know: The film was shot on location in the Scottish Highlands.

Night Hunter (fka Nomis)

Genre: Action, Thriller
Plot: A weathered Lieutenant, his police force, and a local vigilante are all caught up in a dangerous scheme involving a recently arrested, troubled man who's linked to years of female abductions and murders.
What you should know: I know y’all are thirsty for Henry Cavill, but I’d recommend checking the Tomatometer before rushing out to find this one.

Genre: Drama
Plot: In a yurt on the snow-covered fields of the North, Nanook and Sedna live following the traditions of their ancestors. Alone in the wilderness, they look like the last people on Earth. Nanook and Sedna's traditional way of life starts changing - slowly, but inevitably. Hunting becomes more and more difficult, the animals around them die from inexplicable deaths and the ice has been melting earlier every year. Chena, who visits them regularly, is their only connection to the outside world - and to their daughter Ága, who has left the icy tundra a long time ago due to family feud.

Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice

Storyline: An exploration of singer Linda Ronstadt’s career, from her debut in the 1960’s to the present day.
What you should know: If you’re not familiar with Ronstadt, her most famous song is probably “You’re No Good”.

The Blonde One

Plot: In the suburbs of Buenos Aires, Gabriel has just moved in with his colleague, Juan. Shy and reserved, Gabo is reluctant to follow Juan's wandering hands and meaningful looks. With a revolving door of beauties streaming out of Juan's bedroom, his machismo seems firmly in place. However, the attraction between the two men is undeniable.
