Telluride Film Review: ‘Waves’ https://t.co/9z18XJB5gz— Variety (@Variety) August 31, 2019
The strongest reviewed film at this year's festival is Waves, the third film from writer-director Trey Edward Schults. The film centers on a black family in turmoil in South Florida, and has been compared favorably to Moonlight in more than one review. OP is not trying to spoil this movie for herself, but the praise from all corners has been rapturous. The film stars Kelvin Harrison, Jr., Sterling K. Brown, Renée Elise Goldsberry and Lucas Hedges. It will be distributed by A24 for release on November 1st, 2019. If you're heading to TIFF, it premieres there on Tuesday, September 10th.
Parasite director Bong Joon Ho named his two favorites of the festival as the Safdie Brothers' Uncut Gems and Kelly Reichardt's First Cow.
