Lana Del Rey fans are rejoicing today, as the notoriously difficult-to-please folks at Pitchfork have named her latest effort the Best New Music release of the past week. Receiving a 9.4 score, this makes Norman Fucking Rockwell! the website's highest rated Pop/R&B album of the year, a distinction previously held by Ariana Grande's thank u, next (scored 7.9), and the highest rated album of Del Rey's career—her previous efforts were scored 5.5, 7.1, 7.5 and 7.7, respectively.
In her review, Jenn Pelly proclaims Del Rey "the next best American songwriter, period," "a millennial troubadour—singing tales of beloved bartenders and broken men, of fast cars and all of the senses, of freedom and transformation and the wreckage of being alive."
