Katrina Lenk and Patti LuPone will head an American cast in the revival of "Company" that refigures the lead character as a single woman in a world of married couples. https://t.co/RtkV96psek— NYT Theater (@nytimestheater) August 30, 2019
The West End revival of the Stephen Sondheim musical Company has been rumoured for a Broadway transfer for months and months - maybe even years? - and now it is finally happening. The revival is set to begin previews at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theater on March 2nd, and open on March 22nd, which is Stephen Sondheim's 90th birthday. Katrina Lenk (The Band's Visit) will star as Bobbie, a single woman about to turn 35 in a world full of couples, and Patti LuPone will star as Joanne, one of her friends. Typically the role of Bobby is played by a man, but director Marianne Elliott (Angels in America) has a vision for the show that speaks to a large audience about being a woman today. The West End version starred Rosalie Craig and Ms. LuPone, and Ms. Elliott insists that the Broadway version will not be a carbon copy of that production.
