Taylor Swift accepted her VMA for Video of the Year with a call to the Trump administration to recognize the Equality Act bill. Her Change.org petition generated half a million signatures, which she said was five times the amount the White House would need to issue an offical response. White House deputy press secretary Judd Deere said today the White House opposes general discrimination but does not support the bill, citing it would "undermine parental and conscience rights." The Equality Act passed the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives in May 2019 but has not been brought to the Republican-controlled Senate.
