It’s 100% her own doing because now in this climate, the way our culture is, she can’t NOT say anything anymore, she doesn’t have that option with the general public if she wants them to like her. So it feels fake and like she’s pandering.
I agree as you said, with such an impressional fan base, at least she’s finally doing it. But after so long, it will always feel a bit disingenuous like she’s just worried about her coin.
