Would you try intermittent fasting? These stars swear by it: https://t.co/ugnJX8w6M6— Us Weekly (@usweekly) August 2, 2019
One of the latest trends of the dieting / health world is, you guessed it, intermittent fasting. Especially after japanese cell biologist Yoshinori Ohsumi won the Nobel Prize in Medicine in 2016 for his research on how cells recycle and renew their content, a process called autophagy, promoting fasting for periods of time.
So what is intermittent fasting ? What it sounds like. Going without food for a period of time (aka fasting) then eating normally. The most popular version is the — 16:8 — one, where you are getting all of your calories for the day in an eight-hour feeding window, then fasting for 16 hours (Skipping breakfast, lunch at 12:00 pm, dinner at 20:00). Another popular method is the 5:2, where you eat normally for five days a week, then restrict your calorie intake severely (typically 500 for women) for the other two.
There are many variations like OMAD (one meal a day) where you only eat one meal per day (typically dinner), or 20:4 and other variations of feeding windows versus fasting times.
During fasting, you are generally advised to not have anything that can trigger your insulin spike - which means no diet sodas and artificial sweeteners. You are however, allowed to have tea, coffee and water (duh).
One commenter asked, “You look so good omg! What are you doing differently??” to which she responded, “intermittent fasting lol.”
Other stars who have said they do intermittent fasting:
Chris Pratt revealed that he does intermittent fasting in his instagram stories: “So I’m doing this intermittent fasting thing, don’t eat ‘til noon, trying to get my cardio in in the morning — super exciting actor stuff — but I finally get my coffee.” The coffee he's drinking has oatmeal milk in it. “It works pretty good and I’ve lost a little weight so far.”
Kate Walsh tried the OMAD way of fasting on alternating weeks, she says she was doing one day a week of fasting, from 6 p.m. to 6 p.m. or 7 p.m. to 7 p.m though she admitted “you feel a little nutty,” it was worth it in the end. She says she lost a lot of water weight, and it was good for her clarity and energy levels.
Halle Berry combines her intermittent fasting with a keto diet. She starts her day with a bulletproof coffee and a green shake before her workouts. Kourtney Kardashian also followed the IF method combined with a ketogenic diet, where she would wait for 14-16 hours after eating dinner to eat breakfast.
There's more included at the source, but it's more or less all based on the same stuff.
