LOCUS and (possibly Con-or-Bust) are offering limited SPONSORED MEMBERSHIPS (i.e. does not include travel or lodging) for fans of color/non-white fans.  THE LOCUS DEADLINE IS FRIDAY, MAY 31ST! (Sorry for the last minute notice, but they apparently offer this every year, and I *think* it's always in Seattle, so something to keep in mind for 2020 and beyond. Also, it's apparently too late to get the convention pricing on the hotel this year, so sowwy once again.)

Locus Sponsored Membership Deets - You basically have to write 200 words or less on you and your interest in genreCollapse )

Con-or-Bust Remaining Donated Membership - if one is still left, it's first come first serve! Also general SFF con cost assistance!Collapse )

I may be in a coma when/if this post finally goes up, but if you need a walk-through of the Con-or-Bust page, I *think* I finally get their page now.  It can definitely be a bit confusing at first.  Also jealous of anyone that gets to go to Locus b/c I am a Connie Willis fangirl...ask her if she's working on any new projects!  But if Connie doesn't enthuse you, plenty of other authors will be attending Locus.  Willis and Amal El-Mohtar will be running the Writers' Workshop, but there will be panels/readings/etc. as well.

For the not necessarily book tags where people might be going WHY DID YOU TAG THIS?!:  LGBT - several LGBTQ authors/LGBT books nommed: Yoon Ha Lee? and Catherynne M. Valente (Sci-Fi Novel), Witchmark (First Novel), Caitlín R. Kiernan (Novella & Collection), Time Was (Novella), Sarah Pinsker (Short Story), Old Futures: Speculative Fiction and Queer Possibility (Non-fiction), there may be more, idk - feel free to point them out; LOTR - see Non-Fiction & Art book categories; Harry Potter - apparently there is another Beedle the Bard book...I thought the first one was illustrated, but what do I know - see Art Book category; GOT - GRRM has been nommed for Fire & Blood (Collection category), also Mr. ASOIAF Art John Picacio (Artists)
Tags: art / artist, award show - nominees / winners, award show - other, books / authors, convention, game of thrones (hbo), harry potter, lgbtq film / media, lord of the rings / the hobbit, sci-fi, stephen king
