GRRM to New Zealand: Imprison me if I haven't finished The Winds of Winter by July 2020

In a move of staggering confidence, popular disappointment and author George R.R. Martin has indicted that the highly anticipated next installment to his "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, The Winds of Winter could be finished as soon as next summer. He has promised that if he does not, then fans have permission to imprison him on an active volcano.

On his blog, which has recently moved from LiveJournal to his own site, George had this to say:
"As for finishing my book… I fear that New Zealand would distract me entirely too much. Best leave me here in Westeros for the nonce. But I tell you this — if I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done. Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine."

This statement comes only one day after a previous blog post where GRRM stated that he would not share when he thought the books would be done so as to not disappoint.

However, George has previously made promises he could not keep around WorldCon. In February of 2007, GRRM promised that A Dance with Dragons would be finished by that summer, in time for WorldCon Japan. The book was not published until July 2011.
