Whoa, Whoa! Here Are Some Cookout Classics (ONTD Original)

For those of you where it's getting warmer, it's time to have a nice time of cookout throwback classics - the songs that remind us of family gatherings and get us out on the dance floor. You know with your Daisy Dukes, your loud ass uncles arguing, red cups and that good ass potato salad. OP knows that some of y'all will be on your Amma Asante this summer, so make sure to season your pale partner's food and playlist.

1. "Summertime" - DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince

How could OP not begin with this aptly named song?

2. "Happy Feelin's" - Frankie Beverly and Maze

Beyoncé's fabulous cover of the group's "Before I Let Go" put the group back in the spotlight but this group has always been a soul staple for black families everywhere. Check out another classic from them.

3. "Wobble" - V.I.C

This is at every one of your black friend's family events - the cookout, the wedding reception, the family reunion, the holiday parties, the new baby's baptism.

4. "Lovely Day" - Bill Withers

When the weather is perfect, the food is delicious, the laughs are abundant.

5. "Back that Ass Up" - Juvenile

That song your Pentecostal, Rhodes Scholar, Harvard post-doc, St. John wearing auntie loves and then returns to sort of repent on Sunday.

6. "Love and Happiness" - Al Green

This is the song your tipsy auntie exclaims, "y'all kids don't know about this". OP decided to post the live Soul Train performance because the program was a cultural touchstone and the singer has deliveredT some prime vocals and charisma here.

7. "Let's Groove" - Earth, Wind & Fire

The afro-futuristic funk legends and their extensive catalog have put smiles on our faces. Accessorize that two-step with an ear-to-ear grin with this classic.

8. "Crush on You" - Lil Kim feat. Lil Cease

Remember when you young ass knew all the lyrics and yo momma cut you that side eye? OP remembers that moment. Sorry momma, I gotta drop it like it's hot.

9. "Party" - Beyoncé feat. Andre 3000

Simply put, it's a jam. Sorry J. Cole you can't do it like this.

10. "Outstanding" - The Gap Band

A grown folks cookout staple. When yo grandparents was quarreling earlier but turn this shit on and they out hitting that two step.

ONTD, please share your favorite cookout classics, OP wishes she could put 100 videos in this post. Happy Listen's!
