'Hellboy' kicks off weekend box office with $1.3M in Thursday night previews

The critically-trashed, unnecessary reimagining of 'Hellboy' kicked off this weekend's new box office releases with $1.3M on Thursday. It's expected to make a meh $17-20 million this weekend (on a $50M budget). Just as a comparison, Guillermo del Toro's first 'Hellboy' opened with $23M back in 2004, and the sequel brought in $34.5M opening weekend in 2008.

Expect WB/DC's 'Shazam!' to top the box office again this week.

Also out in theaters is the comedy 'Little', which made $735,000 in 2,200 theaters in the U.S./Canada, and is expected to make around $15M this weekend (on a $20M budget).

Also out this weekend are the animated feature 'Missing Link', the easily-avoidable 'Teen Spirit', some teen garbage 'After', and the indie 'A Dark Place'.
