Viola Davis is developing an adaptation of the Octavia Butler novel for amazon. The adaptation will be written by Scifi writer Nnedi Okorafor And Kenyan writer director Wanuri Kahiu (Rafiki) . Viola Davis' production company (Juvee productions) had been pursuing the rights to adapt the novel for a some now, but Butler family didn't give their blessing till Nnedi Okorafor And Wanuri Kahiu signed on and showed they had a clear vision of what they wanted to achieve.
Synopsis from Amazon, "Doro is an entity who changes bodies like clothes, killing his hosts by reflex -- or design. He fears no one -- until he meets Anyanwu. Anyanwu is a shapeshifter who can absorb bullets and heal with a kiss...and savage anyone who threatens those she loves. She fears no one -- until she meets Doro. From African jungles to the colonies of America, Doro and Anyanwu weave together a pattern of destiny that not even immortals can imagine."
All parties involved (Viola Davis, Nnedi Okorafor and Wanuri Kahiu) describe Wild Seed as a game changing book for them. OP has not read the book.
I feel like Viola/her production company are always taking on these epic projects that just get stuck in development hell.
