While many animation studios are just now learning that diversity is good, Sony is the only one who has hit the ground running.
Sony Pictures Animation has picked up Matthew Cherry's 'Hair Love', a story about a black dad named Stephen learning to do his daughter Zuri's hair.
"It has been very clear that audiences have been yearning to see fresh stories that are universal and culturally authentic," said SPA president Kristine Belson "Hair Love is a wonderful father-daughter story and we are proud to nurture talented young filmmakers like Matthew who are breaking new ground."No word on if it will be a full length film. Stacey Newton, Monica A. Young, and Peter Ramsey ("Spider-Man: Into the Spider-verse") will executive produce. So I'm guessing that's a yes?
When will Disney get a second black protagonist who isn't an animal most of the time in their movie?????
