Their TV shows are better, weirdly enough. And it's not necessarily a 'oh we have more time' thing, though that helps. It's like they establish the world but then retread the ground with new characters or just take tiny steps into it in a sequel.
I rewatched the first two this weekend and tbh, while the second is weaker than the first, I like it a lot more now than when it first came out. I loved seeing the evolution in CGI and it had some nice emotional moments.
Tbh, this series is pretty great. The sequels don't stand up to the first one, but as a whole the trilogy is wonderful, solid work. I love it. It's funny, the first movie came out when I was already grown, and yet, watching it all end feels like the end of my childhood.
Lol good luck to the third one if it ends up nominated for an Oscar tho. Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2?
I haven't seen the 2nd one of this franchise since the first one scared me so much. Turns out things just have to be based on cats for my ailurophobia to kick in.
Didn't something dumb like Happy Feet get it instead or am I thinking of the wrong year.
I didn't like the second one but the first one is perfection and the third one was so good.
I can't stop thinking about the ending. I may have cried.

I was tearing up when the light fury did a call back to Toothless in the first film. Everything afterwards made me straight up sob. I do think the first film is the best one (that may be partly due to nostalgia) but the third one wrapped up the series in such a satisfyingly bittersweet way that I’m starting to think the two might be tied at the moment.
