In a recent review of James Blake's new album 'Assume Form' the writer Philip Sherburne called it "aggressively pastel and suffocatingly serious". The album which received a 5.8 score from the publication got criticized for lacking playfulness and James for sounding "hamstrung by old habits, trapped in a musical cage of his own making."
James' tweet refers to the time he called them out for their toxic masculinity when they reviewed one of the album's tracks 'Don't Miss It' in which the writer Kevin Lozano called it "sad boy music".
