- Don Shirley's family has said that the movie is filled with lies. The main two being that Shirley and Vallelonga were not friends and that Shirley was not estranged from his family.
- Viggo thinks writer Nick Vallelonga (who is the son of Tony Vallelonga, the character Viggo plays) has shown restraint when dealing with criticism from Don Shirley's family.
- Says the family is "unjustified, uncorroborated and basically unfair", also says they're resentful.
- Director and co-writer Peter Farrelly says that none of Shirley's family were listed as his heirs, it was his friends. And that they tried to reach out to the family once they learned about them but the family wasn't here for it.
