Surviving R. Kelly Airs Tonight: Aaliyah's Mother Slams Doc Series, 43 Stars Remain Silent

R. Kelly has threatened to sue Lifetime if the documentary series airs.

Tonight, Lifetime begins a six-part series on the long-running accusations against R. Kelly, including his alleged targeting of teenage girls and his sex cult.

Buzzfeed News has requested comment from 43 of Kelly's collaborators, including Lady Gaga, Celine Dion, Chance the Rapper, Jay-Z. Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, Pharrell and Jennifer Hudson, giving them the chance to give a statement before the documentary airs. No one has responded to their requests.

The late Aaliyah's relationship and marriage to R. Kelly (when she was fifteen and Kelly was twenty-seven) is discussed about in the documentary. Aaliyah's mother has slammed the series, saying in part:

"[The claims are] lies and fabrications [that] can not be tolerated and allowed to be spewed from the forked tongues of saboteurs of Aaliyah's legacy."
