- Queen guitarist Brian May says if actor Rami Malek would appear on the Oscar nominations list for his work on Bohemian Rhapsody it would be well-deserved.
- The movie has now generated over $500 million and is on course to become the biggest-grossing music biopic in the North American market.
- Movie received negative criticism for the film itself, but most reviewers were complimentary about Malek’s performance as Mercury.
- Some critics expressed their protest with how portraiture of Freddy Mercury in regards to his sexuality was misrepresented. Bryan Fuller called out #HETWASHING during the movie promo and others expressing their disappointment with how the plot line focused on Freddy's romance with female partner as more deep and meaningful, while his homosexual relationships were shown as sinful and/or flings.
It's #HETWASHING for marketing sakes.— Bryan Fuller (@BryanFuller) May 15, 2018
