Maggie Gyllenhaal to Make Directing Debut on Elena Ferrante Novel Adaptation

- Maggie Gyllenhaal is gearing up to direct her first film.

- Will adapt an Elena Ferrante novel, but doesn't say which. The author is best known for her Neapolitan series of novels.

- HBO is already making an Italian-language TV series adaptation of Ferrante's My Brilliant Friend (first part of the Neapolitan series), and there are plans to adapt the other 3 books as well (each 8-episode season covering one book). The first season will premiere this Fall.
