IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK is magnificent, a warm and lyrical plea to find hope and love in times of despair. I adore this movie, its generosity, its heart. #Tiff18— Jason Bailey (@jasondashbailey) September 10, 2018
Honestly, is anyone really surprised that Barry Jenkins' followup to 'Moonlight' was going to be incredible? The world premiere for 'If Beale Street Could Talk' just finished at TIFF, and the reviews are pouring on Twitter. The word masterpiece has been thrown around quite a bit.
The cast, the camerawork, the story, the directing, everything is getting insane praise. Barry's back in the Oscars game and bigtime. Special love was given to actress Regina King, who'll probably be a big player in the Supporting Actress race this year.
If Beale Street Could Talk - Pure bliss. Lord Almighty, Barry Jenkins is a master. This film is LOVE. A sumptuous jazzy score compliments this heartrending love story that would most certainly make James Baldwin proud. Didn't want this to end. #TIFF18— Alex Billington (@firstshowing) September 10, 2018
Just saw IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK. Really rich in characters and it’s a satisfying, slow burn. Stephan James finally gets the proper star vehicle, Brian Tyree Henry is still brilliant and Teyonah Parris needs to be in more things #TIFF18— Joi @ TIFF (@jumpedforjoi) September 10, 2018
If Beale Street Could Talk. @BarryJenkins has a trifecta. His mastery of color and tones, and their interplay with emotion is unreal. Like the string laden score, he stirs you in waves, in refrains, each time hitting you harder & w more breath than the previous. Amazing! #TIFF18— Robert Daniels @ #TIFF18 (@812filmreviews) September 10, 2018
If Beale Street Could Talk...talks. And it sings and shouts silently. It’s a beautiful rendition of the Baldwin novel by Barry Jenkins who has again infused a film with his profound style. Particularly enjoyed R King’s performance and the moody swirling score of @NicholasBritell— J Don Birnam @ TIFF 2018 (@jdonbirnam) September 10, 2018
Janes Baldwin’s IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK is a staggering achievement in lyrical storytelling loaded with ravishing visuals and rich with ideas. It’s impossible to read it without picturing a sumptuous cinematic experience. Barry Jenkins has made that movie. #TIFF18— erickohn (@erickohn) September 10, 2018
IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK: about a dozen amazing performances. Pure empathy. A heartbreaking american melodrama on par with Douglas Sirk. A towering achievement tied together with a beautiful score. Jenkin's camera & heart are unbeatable. Moonlight was just the start. #TIFF18— Ryan (@ingmarthebergma) September 10, 2018
IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK is a Black love story. About the indomitable spirit of Black people. About the strength & enduring spirit of the Black Woman. About a world that will wipe all of that away if allowed— Tre'vell Anderson (@TrevellAnderson) September 10, 2018
BARRY JENKINS gave us another beautiful picture of blackness #TIFF18
I might do another review roundup for when 'Mid90s' premieres tonight too, yes/no?
