Yes, you read that correctly. A pizzeria in New York named Lions & Tigers & Squares Detroit Pizza is substituting the tomato sauce in a pizza for mustard and tops it off with corned beef, sauerkraut, and cheese. A video by Food Insider shows — what I can only describe as violence against food — how the pizzeria makes this atrocity.
But how and why? Blame it on the alcohol: “A guy came in there, he was drunk. He was slurring and he was trying to order a mushroom pie. The old Italian guy said, ‘Mustard pie? Give it to him!’ They put the mustard on the pie with the tomato sauce and it was a hit,” says Francis Garcia, co-owner of Lions & Tigers & Squares Detroit Pizza. The owners loved this monstrosity so much that they decided to make this a permanent fixture on their menu.
According to Mustard loving Jimmy Kimmel who tried a slice himself: “It’s really good, it’s delicious.” Clearly, he can’t be trusted.
But it didn’t stop there, oh no, Heinz got involved and brought up ketchup into the discussion. I am disgusted.
