AMPAS/Academy reveals new rules for Oscars: shorter telecast, new 'popular film' category, more

Starting in next year's telecast of the Oscars, the following rules will be implemented:

1. A three-hour Oscars telecast - this means that the 'lesser' categories will not air during the live telecast but will take place during commercial breaks (like the Tonys and Grammys do).

2. New award category hororing 'popular films' - which basically means they can finally fucking honor Marvel/Disney movies that are always ignored

3. 92nd Oscars will now air hella early, on Sunday, February 9, 2020. It was originally set to take place on Feb. 23rd (and no, the Olympics have nothing to do with it since 2020 is a summer Olympics year)
