Topher Grace had a unique way of shaking his role in #BlacKkKlansman. He recut 'The Hobbit' trilogy into a 2-hour film: “I don’t know what other guys do. Go fishing? For me, this is just a great way to relax.” https://t.co/Fo5NokmScD pic.twitter.com/BVY2AHBGa3— IndieWire (@IndieWire) August 1, 2018
-In Spike Lee's latest film BlacKkKlansman, That 70s Show and Spider-Man 3 star Topher Grace portrays the Ku Klux Klan Grand Wizard David Duke.
-Grace spent a month researching the part by listening to Duke's lectures and reading his autobiography (but had no interest in actually interacting with the man). Researching white supremacist ideology in conjunction with seeing how Duke's ideology is still greatly effecting this nation made him depressed.
-To find catharsis, Grace recut Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy into a two hour movie.
-He had learned how to use editing software by recutting the George Lucas' Star Wars prequel trilogy into one 85 minute feature back in 2012. Grace actually had a screened it once for a handful on industry insiders but could have no further screenings because of legal reasons.
-He has no interest in professional editing. Rather, he considers it a hobby and says "...there's something really zen about it"
BlacKkKlansman opens in theaters August 10th
