Skyler Jay, the first transgender subject on Netflix’s Queer Eye, has undertaken a lawsuit against the University System of Georgia (USG) for their trans-exclusionary health care policy.
Jay mentioned during the episode that top surgery and its subsequent complications, which cost $16,000, were not covered by USG. According to Advocate, going into debt as a result of this took “a mental, emotional, physical and financial toll."
Jay’s community raised over $8,200 through GoFundMe, Athens Queer Collective, and Southern Fried Queer Pride to help cover the costs.
