A spin-off of the popular Australian 1920s-set Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries has been announced. Called Miss Fisher’s MODern Murder Mysteries, the new miniseries will comprise four episodes set to begin filming this October.
Set in 1964 Melbourne, the series centers around Phryne Fisher’s “gorgeously reckless” niece Peregrine Fisher, who inherits money from the aunt she’s never met. Phryne goes missing and it’s up to the younger Miss Fisher to use her own detecting skills to find her aunt.
The new series will explore issues and themes of feminism, equal rights and social injustice in a new decade of Australian history. Creators Deb Cox and Fiona Eagger promise the three Fs: feminism, fashion, and fun.
Author of the original book series Kerry Greenwood says, “The 1960’s was another decade of exciting change for women and we’re all in for a real treat.”
Later this year, the feature film Miss Fisher & The Crypt of Tears, set in 1929 and starring Essie Davis, the star of the original Miss Fisher series, will also go into production.
*mods, I’m resubmitting this since it was never posted yesterday or rejected.
