We're removing plastic straws in our stores globally by 2020—reducing more than 1 billion plastic straws per year from our stores.— Starbucks Coffee (@Starbucks) July 9, 2018
Starbucks straws are to be replaced by a recyclable lid in their 28,000 stores by 2020. Customers who need a star can get one made of alternative materials.
“Starbucks’ decision to phase out single-use plastic straws is a shining example of the important role that companies can play in stemming the tide of ocean plastic. With eight million metric tons of plastic entering the ocean every year, we cannot afford to let industry sit on the sidelines.” says Nicholas Mallos, director of Ocean Conservancy’s Trash Free Seas program.
Great news for ocean life!
