-As part of a series by Billboard magazine, Olsdal discussed how the LGBTQ community helped him when he was struggling as a teen and facing homophobia
-Felt isolated when he was young; he was in love with his roommate but afraid to tell him and/or his friends out of fear of rejection, bigotry, and rejection
-"The forbidden love I felt became burdened with secrets, lies and shame, and the pure love I felt was poisoned."
-His father would constantly crack homophobic jokes
-The LGBTQ community made him feel empowered, and he is an active campaigner for LGBTQ rights
-He concludes: "I am perfect as I am and there is NOTHING wrong with the way that I am, or feel. What was my Achilles heel is now my armor. For this I owe it my life!"
