Inside the Binge Factory of Netflix

source

Vulture did a long piece on Netflix, some interesting bits:

- they don't care about the meh Lost in Space reviews

- Santa Clarita Diet is huge in the Philippines

- projects Netflix CEO Sarandos initially rejected: What Happened, Miss Simone? and American Vandal

- La Casa de Papel is huge in every not English-speaking market. Sarandos is "deabting" about an US remake (wtf)

- Sarandos has three godfather posters in his office

- Sarandos is cagey as always about totaö viewer numbers, refuses to confirm if Stranger Things is their most popular show or not.

- Netflix had high hopes in The End of the F***ing World, but it underperformed overperformed in every market

- Netflix does very intensive target group research

- One Day at a Time has "lower-than-expected viewership" but the audience it has is very loyal and diverse

- Everything Sucks! also had a "lower-than-expected viewership" and viewers stopped watching midway through an episode and never came back. which for Netflix is worse that not watching it at all
