Steven Spielberg: Netflix Movies and Streaming Services ‘Deserve an Emmy, but Not an Oscar’

In an interview with ITV News Spielberg said:

“I don’t believe that films that are just given token qualifications, in a couple of theaters for less than a week, should qualify for the Academy Award nominations.”

He said that streaming service content could “deserve an Emmy, but not an Oscar.”

According to Indiewire Netflix has used an awards-qualifying theatrical run for movies such as “Mudbound” (which earned Oscar nominations this year for Best Supporting Actress and Best Adapted Screenplay) and “Okja.”
