The American Idol premiere delivered the highest ratings in ABC's Sunday lineup in more than five years and helped propel ABC into the big winner on broadcast television for Sunday night. Katy Perry is the highest paid judge in AI history with a check of $25 million. Perry who most likely thought AI wasn't going to get picked up and she would get a cute check for signing a contract also will fulfill her Witness World Tour. Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie are also touring while being apart of the panel.

I'm not, there was literally nothing else on TV. NBC had American Ninja Warrior and CBS and NCIS: Los Angeles. PBS is doing pledge week and wasn't showing Masterpiece Theater or anything regular that gets their viewers.

Tonight Idol is on opposite The Voice on NBC. Tonight's ratings are the ones to look at tomorrow.

i think she thought it wasn't going to get picked up so she held negations to last minute to get the most she could. this was during bon apetite and the worst backlash she's ever faced, so maybe going on AI could restore her brand/image.

she also debuted 'look what you made me do' at the vmas which katy was hosting and put her entire catalog available on streaming when witness debuted. then released reputation on the anniversary when kanye's mom passed away. she is something else.

I can't believe FOX pulled out a shelved OJ special that they considered too tasteless to air back in 2006 to air directly against this show.

I watched a few auditions and I actually like the new judges so far. I can't even remember who was judging the last season on Fox but at least Katy, Luke, and Lionel have some charisma.

Ryan is sf annoying though. They should have got someone new to host too..
