Paul Newman Once Gave Susan Sarandon Part of His Salary to Ensure Pay Parity

In an interview with BBC Radio 5, Susan Sarandon revealed that Paul Newman once gave her part of his salary after finding out that she was being paid less than the men on their 1998 film "Twilight".

“When they said it was favored nations — but they only meant the two guys [Newman & Gene Hackman] — he stepped forward and said, ‘Well, I’ll give you part of mine.’” ("Favored nations" means that all actors receive the same billing and salaries).

"He was a gem," she said of Newman, who died in 2008.
