Lena Dunham shared her decision to get a hysterectomy (removal of the uterus) after battling endometriosis for a decade, and this was her ninth surgical operation.
She says she has always wanted to have kids, but also felt that the uterus she's been given is defective. She's been delirious with pain in back in August, and her family was worried for her.
She also wrote a very personal essay explaining her journey, explaining that it's not a right choice for everyone, and doctors are very reluctant to perform the procedure on women aged 18-35, however in her situation she believes it was the right one.
Also mentions that her doctors did not remove her ovaries, which means she may not be infertile. She says she will pursue adoption, but really wanted to get pregnant as well.
