Background: TPS, or Temporary Protected Status, allows people from countries hit by war, environmental disasters or other crises to live and work in the US legally. It was granted to Haitians after the earthquakes. There are now 60,000 Haitians living under TPS in the US. They have kids, jobs, homes here. Meanwhile, Haiti still hasn't recovered completely from the quakes. Ever worse, since then, the UN accidentally started a chlolera outbreak there that killed over 9,000 people. The country just went through two hurricanes. There is no place for those 60,000 Haitians to go back to! But once their TPS ends in 18 months, the Trump administration will be able to easily deport them, as TPS holders are required to register with the government. Here's an AJ+ video that gives an overview:

Alyssa Milano touches on the ASPIRE-TPS Act of 2017, 1 of the bills that would let TPS holders become permanent residents. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen is a Republican congresswoman who introduced the bill with several Democrats:
Actor/Author Wendell Pierce (Bunk from The Wire):
59,000 Haitians living in U.S. must leave within 18 months. Trump administration ends their Temporary Protection Status. It is clear Trump’s policies target people of color. Muslim Ban, End DACA, & Depart Black Haitians. Make America Great Again.— Wendell Pierce (@WendellPierce) November 21, 2017
Author Christopher Rice, the son of Anne Rice:

#Haiti is the poorest country in Western Hemisphere - devastated by disease and an earthquake that killed 230k people. Now we tell 60k Haitians to "GET OUT"?— Dan Rather (@DanRather) November 21, 2017
We're better than this. And I think most Americans know it.

How you can help: Call your Representative at 202-224-3121, tell them they need to grant legal residency to not just the 60,000 Haitians under TPS, but all 400,000 TPS holders!
What you can say: Hi, my name is _____. I live in [name of town], my zip code is [zip code]. Here's my message for the congressman/congresswoman: There are 400,000 people living in the US under TPS. They have homes, jobs and kids here. They are a part of our community. Trump wants to deport them. We must stop him! Two bills were introduced this month to save TPS holders:
We need congressman/congresswoman [name of congressperson] to become a co-sponsor of those bills! Thank you for your time!
