i've heard the adoption process here in australia is difficult as well. i think there must be a way for the process to ensure the safety of the child while not making the whole thing drawn out and difficult. a lot of people don't adopt because of how hard it is even though they want to...

Yeah, Hugh Jackman and Deborra-Lee Furness have talked about how they first tried to adopt in Australia but it was so impossible that they eventually gave up and adopted in the US instead.

Cate Blanchett ended up adopting in U.S. as well. But I think a part of it has to do with Australia's terrible history of forced adoption wherein thousands of non-consenting, unmarried mothers were forced to give their babies up for adoption several decades. The Australian government had to apologize for it eventually. Hence they have even stricter laws in place.
