SAG-AFTRA Goes on Strike Against Videogame Companies https://t.co/MUsuI7yKuK— Variety (@Variety) October 21, 2016
An update from this post a year ago. SAG-AFTRA (Screen Actors Guild), after multiple negotiations, were not satisfied with the contracts video game voice actors have to sign and has decided to go on strike against 11 video game publishers. This is the first SAG-AFTRA strike since 2000 against the commercial/advertising industry which lasted for six months and this counts as the first strike against the video game industry. The union's demands are that the actors get residual-type bonuses (aka getting paid for multiple showings/screenings like for movies/TV) for their work. The voice actors want a performance bonus every time a game sells 2 million copies. There is also an issue of secrecy in the buisiness were a video game publisher won't even tell the actor what they're working on. The actors under the guild now have to refuse work until a new deal is created. Here is the list of games SAG-AFTRA are striking this includes popular upcoming video games like Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Kingdom Hearts 2.8, and Injustice 2. The first picketed strike will be held against Electronic Arts today.
It does suck seeing games I want on that list but I really hope they get the deal they want because voice actors in that industry are constantly treated like shit.
