Left is the Gears of War poster, right original piece by Martin de Diego from 2012.
Last year Mexican illustrator Mariana "Haku" Villanueva was hired by Microsoft to create exclusive artwork for the then-upcoming game Gears of War 4. Now that the game is out someone on Facebook picked up the message above, pointing out that the cover she made is almost traced over its entirety from a piece on Deviant Art:
She did reply on the original post claiming she just got "inspired" and its completely fair and normal to do so, when in fact her artwork is almost an exact copy and most likely got paid a big check for it.
Translation in case someone doesn't see it in english: “Intellectual property is a strategic asset that provides significant value for Microsoft, their customers and partners. In Microsoft we are in favour and in favour of respect for the intellectual property and that is why we will investigate and take the necessary steps to fulfill and to respect the rights of authors and artists related to our products.”
