Suzanne Vega shades Britney Spears, talks about new music and gender identity

Singer-songwriter Suzanne Vega, who is most well-known for her massive hit "Tom's Diner," has just released a new album based on the life and work of author Carson McCullers, titled "Beloved: Songs from an Evening with Carson McCullers." Vega says that McCullers' gender fluidity appealed to her because although she is heterosexual and married to a man, there was a time in her life where she felt like she did not like being a woman, although she definitely didn't want to be a man either.

Suzanne Vega was also asked about Britney Spears' cover of her song. During the interview, Vega states that she was very surprised that Britney Spears had covered her song. Speaking about Britney Spears, Suzanne Vega said that she was impressed that it was Britney's idea to cover her song, since it was very unexpected and it showed maturity in Britney's career choices. Listen to Suzanne Vega's song, as well as Britney Spears' cover, after the cut below.
