This series was pitiful.
Whoever thought they could make a Jennifer Lawrence cult of personality around this annoying hippie weirdo was sorely mistaken.
I rented the first movie for the kids a few summers ago when I ran a youth drop in and it was literally unintelligible.

lol yeah. and I've never read the series so perhaps those are better, but the movies looked like literally a direct response to Hunger Games and seemed created specifically to compete with it. so many elements are the same. it's like once THG took off, every teen franchise coming out had to be dystopian or post-apocalyptic in some way.

The first book is decent, then it aaaaaall goes downhill. The third book is rage-inducing because the author's inconsistent writing spoils the ~shocking climax.

I can't say which is worse because I haven't seen the movies, but I read the first book a few years ago and it was pretty bad. Probably the stupidest book I've ever read. You should read some of the 1-star reviews on Goodreads--there are lots of funny ones.

The books are horrible

Book One: let's introduce a few significant plot points... I wonder where the author is going with this...

Book Two: new plot points introduced that overshadow previous plot points (that are also left unexplained)

Book Three: actually forget everything because there's an even more dramatic plot point to introduce and let's pretend whatever was a source of conflict in book one and two never existed.

Unnecessary climax and resolution... All characters and the author need to DIAF

i haven't read the books, either. i've seen some of the movies....i'm honestly not even sure which ones i've seen. how many are out? they just don't seem to make any sense to me at all. the people who are good at everything are considered "bad"?? what?? i still don't get it.

I mean in a way wasn't THG a thing because of Twilight? YA book series, female lead, fantasy elements, love triangle blah blah blah

I get why they wanted to try it with Divergent too with the recent history of super successful YA franchises

She will never be a JLaw if she doesn't branch out and do adult roles. Cutting off Divergent is a step in the right direction, as is Snowden. Does she have a good part in that or is she just "the wife"?

I can't believe I feel this way, but I'm actually kind of sad about them (potentially? or confirmed?) not doing the last movie. I enjoyed them for what they were. The last movie actually was better than the book so I was excited for the final one.

I've always found it interesting that movie stars seem to have this high and mighty attitude over television people.

Especially when most of their medium and the stuff they sign up for is samey tired crap.

I don't think it's that. She's doing an HBO show so she's not above it. She just didn't sign up for TV when agreeing to do the movies.

Yep. She agreed to do the Divergent series as a protagonist in a big Hollywood movie series, now to see it shift to her being the lead on a TV show no different than a ABC Family/Freeform TV series (just like how she started ha) she wants out

This is definitely true but I think "prestige" television is changing this a little bit. McConaughey probably wouldn't have gotten his Oscar without True Detective for example.

I don't think it's the "oh tv is lame" factor since as others have said she's doing Big Little Lies on HBO. It sounds more like she doesn't enjoy how long they take, which is valid.

IKR? I remember reading interviews of several actresses, usually actresses more than actors, who are all "I won't do TV. I've been told not to do TV cause I'm a movie star!"

She paid her dues, her tv show was awful.

She's not talking about doing television in a general sense here or saying she's above it. She's just saying that when she signed on for the Divergent series, she was signing on to do these for theatrical release not television.
