American actress Emma Stone was chosen to play Allison Ng, a woman of Hawaiian and Asian heritage. Emma later confessed that the Aloha controversy raised her awareness on whitewashing in Hollywood.


Jennifer Lawrence in The Hunger Games Series
All American girl Jennifer Lawrence drew the ire of the readers of The Hunger Games series when she was chosen to play heroine Katniss who has black hair, olive skin, and gray eyes. Author Suzanne Collins defended the casting saying that there's always hair and make-up.


Jake Gyllenhaal in Prince of Persia
Jake Gyllenhaal bagged the lead role for Prince of Persia when he obviously is not Persian. John Oliver criticized the casting 6 years after, saying that Gyllenhaal, a Caucasian actor with a Swedish last name, was cast to play a prince from Persia.


Jim Sturgess in Cloud Atlas
Jim Sturgess, a British actor, was picked to portray Korean Hae-Joo Chang in Cloud Atlas. Enough said!
