Celebrities urge world leaders to fight for girls and women + Google Doodle "One day I will ..."

A number of high-profile entertainers have signed an open letter calling on world leaders to fight for gender equality across the globe.

The letter is titled "Poverty is Sexist"

"Nowhere on earth do women have as many opportunities as men. Nowhere"

500 million women can't read
155 countries have laws that discriminate against women
62 million girls around the world are denied the right to education

The letter asks for leaders to help girls and women fight HIV and malnutrition, support female economic empowerment and for 'better data on the girls and women we can’t see'

[Celebrity] Signers include: Amy Poehler, Bono, Charlize Theron, Colin Farrell, Danai Gurira, Sir Elton John, Jennifer Lopez, Jessie J, Katie Holmes, Lea DeLaria, Mark Ruffalo, Mary J Blige, Meryl Streep, Muhammad Ali, Oprah Winfrey, Padma Lakshmi, Patricia Arquette, Ruby Rose, Shonda Rhimes, Tété, Thandie Newton and Tina Fey

300 women and girls share their dreams by completing the sentence, "One day I will ..."

The doodle features primatologist Jane Goodall, Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai and activist Muzoon Almellehan, showing that there's still room to dream even for those who already have a long list of accomplishments.
