His stilted, faking nature is what you're meant to notice. It's not like he's supposed to be natural in that scene and it just came out wrong lol. I mean, what would the purpose of a kid sitting there, watching that be? Is there any circumstance under which it would be reasonable to expect that to be natural?
There's a YA book called Pretending to be Erica that this show reminds me of so much. Except the kid that returns is a girl and the parents aren't politicians but still very rich.

I can't believe the mom being horrified from discovering Adam's secret was just finding out that he hides in the closet. Seems pretty expected for someone who has been locked in a cave for a decade. From the previous trailer I thought she would discover a bizarre sexual behavior or something.
i watched the first episode and i really liked the plot. i am rooting for none of the characters though, they all suck lol. i hope it doesn't get canceled right away, i want a few answers first they already set up so much.

The young kid, both as a kid and as the grown up version, creeps me out. I want to be sympathetic but everything he does makes me greatly distrust him.

I'm liking it so far; it's borrowing SO heavily from Little Children and The Lovely Bones [just the book, not the dreadful film], but I ain't mad about that. I cannot deal with Noted Silver Fox Rupert Graves having a (bad) American accent AND dark hair in the flashbacks, but I'm happy to see Margot Bingham again; she was so freakin' stunning on Boardwalk Empire. ♥
This kind of reminds me of that SVU episode "Stranger" - where a girl claims she's the long lost daughter/sister who vanished years before. It turns out she was faking it (but was really abused and kidnapped by her stepdad) and that the old sister killed the real sister years ago by pushing her down a chimney stack. And the mom knew about the murder but didn't say anything because she didn't want to ~lose two children~ IDK, it's just giving me those vibes.
But like he was hella slick he's using those picture to get the older brother to trust him and believe that he is Adam. I guarantee that kid is not Adam.
I only have a problem with it because there's no conceivable way that a family wouldn't be able to tell that the 19 year old isn't the same person as the 9 year old that went missing
