Abraham Lincoln, Neil Armstrong – and Miley Cyrus – Feature on List of Greatest Ever Americans

The 100-strong list, compiled by 1000 Americans from all 50 states, featured famous faces from past and present, with the likes of Dick Van Dyke, Will Smith, Judy Garland and Eminem featuring alongside ex-presidents, inventors and authors.

The King even toppled the President – Elvis Presley featured higher than Barack Obama in the poll.

Other great Americans to feature on the list, comprised following a poll of 1,000 Americans from across all 50 states, include first president George Washington, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and animation pioneer Walt Disney.

The youngest star to make the top 100 was controversial singer Miley Cyrus, 21.

“Abraham Lincoln is considered by many to be one of the greatest American presidents, and it also seems most see him as the greatest American as well.

“His two terms in office had a huge effect on America as we know it today, and his actions changed the country in so many ways.

“In fact, a large number of those to feature in the top twenty are politicians, either from the past or recent times.

“In comparison, most of today’s ‘celebrities’ could only make it into the second half of the list, with just a handful of recent singers, actors and TV personalities in the top 50.”

The list includes a string of politicians, sports stars, actors, singers and television personalities, while businessmen and inventors also featured.

But by far and away the most votes went to ex-presidents

Lady Gaga and Ozzy Osbourne's lyrics named hardest to understand

If you’ve ever been caught singing the wrong lyrics to a famous tune, you're not alone.

A new survey has revealed an alarming number of popular song lyrics misunderstood by the British public.

Almost a quarter of people think lyrics to Abba’s Dancing Queen “See that girl, watch that scene, diggin’ the dancing queen” are actually “See that girl, watch her scream, kicking the dancing queen.”

Queen’s “We Will Rock You” was the second most commonly misheard lyric, with 18 per cent of respondents hearing “Kicking your cat all over the place” in place of “Kicking your can all over the place”.

Ozzy Osbourne and Lady Gaga topped the Blinkbox poll of artists with the hardest lyrics to understand.

Many Brits believed the line in Gaga’s “Poker Face” was “Polk Her Face”, while Ozzy’s lyric “Off the rails on a crazy train” was misheard as “Off the rails on a gravy train.”

6 things we learned about One Direction from their new flop video You & I

1 - He's not just a pretty face, it seems Harry Styles is also quite the actor. It's rumoured he could be eyeing up a move to Hollywood when the music dies - and his crocodile tears here are quite believable. Bravo to that man with the curls.

Alternative 1. THEY ARE STUPID.

2 - Niall Horan's ditched the quiff and got  himself a nice new fringe. Now, without getting carried away here it's probably fair to say this new style has put him in the solid top three of best hair in the band. Louis, a previous leader, is rock bottom with his new rat-inspired do.

The Top 10 (or 5) Most Overrated Tele-Novelas Of The Last 10 Years!

The highest rated novela at the moment is Lo Que La Vida Me Robó that stars Angelique Boyer and Sebastián Rulli. Although it's the most watched, it doesn't mean it's the best in writing and acting. Recently Televisa ordered extra scripts and extension of 40 episodes due to its success, forcing writers to come up with new stories not in the original they were basing it off of.

With the extension it's turning out to be overrated and has tarnished their image. This got us thinking of other melodramas that have been successful ratings-wise but lack in quality.

Rebelde (2004): The hit series formed RBD, the musical group that made Anahi, Maite Perroni, Dulce María, Christopher Uckermann, Alfonso Herrera and Christian Chávez to become household names. The pop band was a success, but the novela was complete rubbish. Based on an Argentine series the mexican version lasted 440 episodes. When people remember the it they think of the band, not the series. The series had major problems when the group started touring and filming became an obstacle. Scripts seemed to have been thrown out of the window, instead opting for product placement weaved into plots. It seemed like an improv hour and became painful to watch.

ONTD Original™: 10 of the Best & 10 of the Worst Kaiju Movies

The word "kaiju" (怪獣; kaijū) has existed long before Pacific Rim adopted it for its vocabulary. The term translates to "strange beast." The prefix "dai-" is sometimes added, changing the meaning to "giant strange beast." For the sake of simplicity, kaiju is often interpreted as "monster."

Monsters such as Godzilla and Rodan are occasionally labeled "daikaiju," while the monsters-of-the-week in tokusatsu (special effects) series like Ultraman are regarded as "kaiju" or "kaijin" (strange person).

The big monster movie didn't necessarily originate in Japan. King Kong anyone? Nevertheless, Japan did make it its own, and is known for perfecting the genre with advanced cinematic techniques. Most of which were adapted in sentai (or Power Rangers) shows.

The grandest of all kaiju is hands down Godzilla, or Gojira in its homeland. Toho Studio's radioactive creation came to prominence in 1954, and continued to reign until 2004. TriStar released its own Godzilla remake in 1998, and it was met with mixed reception. Sixteen years later, Warner Bros. Pictures and Toho have teamed up to reboot the series once again. For your reading pleasure, here are some of the best and worst kaiju films to have ever graced the big screen.

For reference, the terms Showa (1926-1989) and Heisei (1989-current) reflect the eras in Japan. For kaiju, the word "Millennium" refers to the films made in and after 2000.

Up from the depths, thirty stories high, breathing fire, his head in the sky... Godzilla!Collapse )

25 (5) Incredibly Tough Movies for Extreme Viewers

18. Requiem for a Dream

Darren Aronofsky’s second feature (adapted from Hubert Selby Jr.’s novel) is relentless from the opening frame, as Aronofsky’s aggressive style, Matthew Libatique’s spiky photography, and Clint Mansell’s overwhelming score conspire to throw the viewer into a state of perpetual unease. But the lead-up is positively sedate compared to the grim climax, in which Aronofsky’s four stories are simultaneously brought crashing to their horrifying, grim conclusions.
