The Clooneys Adopt a Shelter Dog

i volunteer at an animal shelter and it's moving to see how much we've grown and how my community seems to be giving a damn these days when it comes to rescuing our little stray dogs and cats (even some horses!) so this just warms my heart.

I agree. In the last 7-8 years or so, it seems animal rescue has really become a well-known thing and is among the first choices for most people wanting to get a pet. Its really great.

Thank you for volunteering! All 8 of my dogs over the years have been rescues. My current dog is a beautiful brindle pitbull from the NYC shelter, where he was to be put down the same day I got him out... he is my best friend. I do some publicity work for a local rescue, too. Rescued pets love you with their entire soul.

8 rescued dogs!!! and thank you soooo much for adopting those dogs, especially a pitbull since they're always so hard to get people to adopt them bc of their bad reputation. :( i know it's such a cliche and all dogs are beautiful etc, but there's a special kind of relationship with a rescued dog bc they just know that you saved them and gave them a second chance so the gratitude is that much deeper, imo. <3 but like i've said, all dogs are beautiful but rescued dogs own my heart.

it's amazing seeing how people here in Mexico still don't give af about adoption, there are so many shelters around here, it's insane how they make it work! they're amazing.

We've adopted 9 cats in the past 4 years (7 of them live with me, two are a year old and the rest are babies that we've found around our home, the other 2 cats live with my mom) and it feels so good to see how they're just like brothers and sisters <3.

when I have my own place I'm def going to look into adopting. I've had my dog since he was a puppy but I just happened upon him. I always tell people to adopt but everyone seems to just want puppies/kittens :/

I follow a rescue on Instagram and ugh there's one dog that has been posted several times for over a month and he's so cute and I can't believe no one has adopted him :(

that's how it was my dog. i saw his profile on a rescue's website, and rushed to adopt him, thinking because he was a cute and popular breed (he's part-poodle), there was a long list to adopt him. turns out, he was at a rescue for 2 months before i adopted him :(

It makes me so happy when people choose to adopt shelter pets over getting them from a breeder/pet store. I wish more celebs would go this route.

A girl I went to HS with just bought a puppy from a store that's notorious for treating their pets poorly and getting their puppies from puppy mills. She was posting on Facebook how great her experience was. It took everything I had to not say something to her about it.

The only reason I would ever buy a dog from a store is to rescue it, I can't believe pet stores like that are still a thing

There used to be one in our fucking mall but then it was replaced by the aspca. I feel like people were probably disappointed they couldn't go in and see all the little "designer dogs" anymore though.

but that's still contributing to the business of puppy mills :(.

it is not rescuing it, just perpetuating the system. by purchasing that dog, it opens up space for them to ship in another poor puppy who was born to a mother who is forced to pump out babies and is disposed of like trash when she is no longer useful.

The droopyness is a result of breeding for show standards which crosses over into the pet market. It's quite depressing, all that skin is bad for their health.

and PSA for anyone who wants a purebred dog, you can totally adopt, get in touch with a rescue for your breed of choice or become buds with someone at your local shelter. Some have waiting lists etc but you often get a much lower price than a breeder, plus you get shots + spay/neuter!

This is so true. I adopted one of my dogs from a breed-specific rescue and she's perfect. And my mom let the people at her local Humane Society know she wanted a specific breed, so they called her whenever one came in. That's how another rescue joined our family :)

Id love to, but I fill out the application and NEVER hear a word. I have 2 English Bulldogs and would gladly take more, but if they dont respond to my application, what should I do?

:( idk in that situation. Adopting my dog was a breeze and a teenager was manning the desk at a pet store (the shelter always has a few dogs at the pet stores, it wasn't puppy mill) so she was 100% idgaf and didn't assess me or my dog before doing the adoption. which tbh is a little scary considering she's a pretty high energy breed and if someone else had adopted her not knowing how psychotic Australian Shepherds can get, she might have ended up back in the shelter or on craigslist or something.

I've been in that situation. When it happened to me, I just looked to other rescues. There's no shortage of dogs that need homes.

I'm going through the same experience! It's so frustrating.

I'm on the waitlist for a golden puppy. My wait time is literally 2 years, and that's to get to the front of the line ;___;

But they just flew in goldens from turkey and one is pregnant so a breeder took her in and I got notification that I'll be getting one of those puppies :3

This. All of my dogs have been purebreds and all but one have been rescues (the first one wasn't a rescue because he was a gift in 1991 and no one in my family really knew about rescues at that point). It is possible, you just have to be patient and willing to look.

This is one of those times I'm glad to give attention to a celebrity seeking out the press. Anything that pushes adoption as the norm/desirable is great!
