Darren Criss misgenders Hedwig on "Live with Kelly and Michael", has horrendous opening week
His first week, by the numbers:
66.39% of the gross potential for the week was made. 4,203 out of 6,042 seats (6 shows total) were sold. Even if he had gotten all 7 potential shows in, he still would be the Hedwig with the lowest opening week.
For comparison, Neil Patrick Harris made $772,606 (109.57% of the gross potential), Andrew Rannels made $648,738 (82.35% of the gross potential), Michael C. Hall made $600,961 (80.84% of the gross potential), and John Cameron Mitchell made $604,410 (79.79% of the gross potential). Each had 6 or 7 shows their first full weeks.
Another fun fact! Apart from the week of previews (1 performance, $144,194), his first week is the lowest grossing week of the show's entire run. Congrats, Darren!

Update: Darren is now retweeting fans for the sole purpose of adding links to buy tickets from.

idk how anyone thought this would be a good idea in the first place though, esp immediately following JCM

It probably was more of the fact that his run in How to Succeed was really short, like two or three weeks until Nick Jonas finished rehearsals. So there was a sense of urgency that isn't really there if the actor is scheduled for a 6 month run or something.
Well done OP.
At least he is working. What are his fellow Glee members besides Grant, the beiger Rachel and Lea doing?
of the people you didn't list, dianna, chord, and naya all have tv/film/stage work lined up and amber is working on an album. so.
And Matthew Morrison is on Broadway in Neverland, which looks pretty good.
morrison is in finding neverland, which unlike Hedwig is actually selling out each week. jane lynch has more stuff going on than i can list. colfer has his books, the lead in a movie, a guest spot on a tv show, etc. rivera has a role on devious maids and a book deal. morris did a movie and was on comedy bang bang and whose line. lea has her album, a movie, and scream queens. amber has her album and dancing with the stars, etc. jenna has her movie twinsters, a play, and a charity she founded. dianna has a bunch of movies and a West End play about McQueen. mchale hosts a tv show and has a movie out.
none of them are hurting for work atm.
like Darren is dumb but I also think focusing on Hedwig's gender is actually kind of reductive since it's one piece of the puzzle (John Cameron Mitchell himself has said as much tbh...he's also said she isn't trans)
I watched Hedwig with Andrew Ranells and he was really good. I personally don't see how Darren can carry that role, nor do I want to see if he can.
I watched An American in Paris last Wednesday. Highly recommend. It's really beautiful. Choreography, styling, set, etc.
I also watched Les Mis on Saturday which was amazing. And then I'll be seeing Phantom tomorrow night and Lion King next Wednesday.
also, was American in Paris anything like the movie? I LOVE Gene Kelly, so I have high expectations.
Hedwig - $37 w/ Lottery
An American in Paris - $32 w/ General Rush
Les Mis - $43 w/ Tix4Students
Phantom - $102 w/ Playbill Club discount
Lion King - $170 w/ no discount cuz Lion King has none whatsoever.
I do my research. I only pay more than $50 if it's a show I really want to see. Kinky Boots was with my family so I had to pay that price.
All of my seats have been great too. Hedwig was partial view but with how the stage is set up I only didn't see the backdrop and one of the guitarist who has 0 lines.
I forgot to mention that I haven't watched the movie. I need to now. The acting/singing may not be up to par since I've read that the main actors were mainly picked for their dancing abilities. But I wasn't disappointed with anything in that show.

I wish Billy Elliot hadn't closed.
but also I would do anything to go back in time and see Andrew Rannells live as Elder Price in the Book of Mormon... ANYTHIIIIIIIIING
