Paris Whitney Hilton was born February 17, 1981 in New York City, oldest child of the newest generation of the wealthy Hilton family, associated with the eponymous hotel empire.






80s/early 90s: She lived in several exclusive homes in her youth, having houses in Bel-Air, the Hamptons and Beverly Hills in California, and later moving to the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel in Manhattan.




1996: She moved to New York at the age of 15 and attended the well known Dwight School. To kids in the NYC area, they say the name is an acronym for "Dumb White Idiots Getting High Together". She completed her sophomore and junior years there, and dropped out her senior year. She did not attend college.

Around this time Paris starts going out to night clubs and parties in New York and appears in NYC society pages in the newspaper.



1999: Paris earns her GED.



2000-2002: Paris' party girl reputation is well known by this time. She is referred in newspapers as New York's wildest "junior socialite". She gets known for constantly macking it with different male (and female) celebrities in clubs, cutting bathroom lines and for her outrageous clothes. Her relationships with Leonardo DiCaprio and Jason Shaw are major tabloid fodder at this time. She also dates Rick Salomon during this time.








2003: "The Simple Life" debuts on FOX network, a "reality" show with a fish out of water concept following Paris Hilton's and childhood friend/socialite Nicole Richie's exploits in a small town in Arkansas. (It was originally supposed to be her sister Nicky instead of Richie) Paris' sex tape is also "leaked" at this time. These two events suddenly turn Paris into a household name and interest in her life comes to a fever pitch. Paris' star is on the rise.









2004 - 2005: Buoyed by the tremendous success of her reality show, sequels follow. Magazines with her image fly off the shelves and she scores several endorsement deals. She founds Heiress Records, begins work on her own album, releases a jewelry line, sunglass line, perfume, models, appears in a few low budget movies and writes a book "Confessions of an Heiress", revealing her 'secrets' and containing many pictures of her at parties. She opens a string of night clubs, creatively named "Club Paris". Following her relationships and drama with guys and fellow "It Girls" like Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie becomes a media obsession.






20 April 2005: Speculation that Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie's friendship is on the rocks. Paris says "It's no big secret Nicole and I are no longer friends".

May 2005: Paris Hilton gets engaged to Greek shipping heir and billionaire, Paris Latsis.



October 2005: Paris H. drops Paris L. like a bad habit.

Next up, late 2005: Stavros Niarchos, also a greek billionaire.


May 2006: Paris sends Stavros packing (but keeps the ring).

October 2006: Paris and Nicole get dinner together, have a sleepover and look at old pictures. Their friendship is renewed, and the two are reported saying "We're back".
