Mario Lopez to reprise Patrick Swayze's role in 'Dirty Dancing' remake

Melbourne, Nov 6: Producers of the new 'Dirty Dancing' movie have finally found the man whom they think will be perfect for Patrick Swayze's role.

According to inside reports, TV actor Mario Lopez managed to impress the film's producers with his cha-cha moves as a contestant on TV show 'Dancing with the Stars'.

Industry insiders have revealed that the producers are likely to find an even-lesser known actor to play the female lead.

While on one hand the original film's fans are looking forward to the new flick, Patrick Swayze has reported;y said that he?s appalled that they're planning a remake.

"I think that the original really stands up well and both leads were great!" he laughed. We seem intent on re-making everything right now," Moviehole.net quoted him, as saying.

Despite the fact that the original 1987 film, which was directed by Emile Ardolino was a low-budget venture with no major stars (at the time), it was a roaring success.

Its soundtrack is one of the best-selling soundtracks of all time, and it spawned several hit singles, including 'She's Like The Wind' written and sung by Swayze; 'Hungry Eyes,' and 'I've Had The Time Of My Life,' which won an Oscar for Best Original Song.

I don't think he's that great. Unless he's naked.
[info]spacenaut 6th-Nov-2006 09:31 pm (UTC)
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Are you fucking kidding me? What is wrong with people? D:
[info]bridgelicious 6th-Nov-2006 10:19 pm (UTC)
THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT WAS GOING THROUGH MY HEAD, IFAWTC!!!

please please please don't taint a perfectly good movie with a really bad remake!
[info]viktorya 6th-Nov-2006 09:32 pm (UTC)
Wasn't Havana Nights (or whatever it was called) a remake of Dirty Dancing????
[info]mandy2426 6th-Nov-2006 09:32 pm (UTC)
That's what I was thinking!
[info]yesternight 6th-Nov-2006 09:34 pm (UTC)
i think it was a sequel
[info]blackacre 6th-Nov-2006 09:35 pm (UTC)
It was a "prequel." Different characters, a bit earlier in time and a cameo by swayze.

Either way, it shouldn't have been made. Nor should the original (at least IMHO)
[info]marierebecca 6th-Nov-2006 09:35 pm (UTC)
That was a sequel. This is a remake. Meaning that this will be the same characters and plot as the original.
[info]spunkstar 6th-Nov-2006 11:05 pm (UTC)
it was a prequel (different characters). also it was loosely based on the life of the lead choreographer of the film.
[info]sayzzagain 6th-Nov-2006 09:32 pm (UTC)
That's because he did it just like him- I watched him do that on DWTS and he reminded me of Patrick Swazy in Dirty Dancing.
[info]lorag 6th-Nov-2006 09:33 pm (UTC)
Oh, sweet Jesus. COME UP WITH NEW IDEAS, PEOPLE.
[info]saladbar 6th-Nov-2006 10:25 pm (UTC)
EXAÇTLY!!
[info]abbyroadme 7th-Nov-2006 12:15 am (UTC)
I agree! Can't they come up with new and better ideas. Not saying the original was bad, but I don't want to see the same stuff shown over and over. Come people....be more creative.
[info]pikapika217 6th-Nov-2006 09:33 pm (UTC)
ok, can we please stop making crappy sub-par remakes and/or sequels to movie from the 80s that were cheezy at best? What next: re-making 'Sixteen candles', 'The breakfest club', 'Flashdance' and 'Ferris Bueller'? Please don't, because you are slowly ruining all of the good 80s movies. and why exactly does Dirty Dancing need a remake? it's not like the sequel was a box office smash XP
[info]icequeen1502 6th-Nov-2006 09:45 pm (UTC)
if they remake ferris bueller with the likes of ashton kutcher or some such bullshit, i will boycott hollywood.
[info]___showerscene 6th-Nov-2006 09:52 pm (UTC)
oh god, that thought makes me want to vomit.
[info]monkeygrim 6th-Nov-2006 10:07 pm (UTC)
that would officially mean the world is truly ending.
[info]strangelittlex 7th-Nov-2006 04:05 am (UTC)
I'm right there with ya. I hate that they're so insistant on ruining perfectly good movies. Like kids/adults of all ages don't watch these movies when they repeat on TBS fifty billion times a year, everyone's seen them already!
[info]tropicalwahini 7th-Nov-2006 01:46 am (UTC)
shhhhhhhhhhhh the Hollywood execs will hear you!
[info]malika 7th-Nov-2006 11:05 pm (UTC)
man, ban remakes in general! I hate the remaking foreign movies trend too. it's too bad Hollywood's run out of original ideas :(
[info]runnerlevelred 6th-Nov-2006 09:33 pm (UTC)
NOOOOOOOOO!OMGWTF No one can replace the Swayze. Leave it alone, no remake.
[info]haydsvirgo 6th-Nov-2006 11:33 pm (UTC)
Exactly! That pisses me off, why the hell do they think they need to remake it??
[info]blackacre 6th-Nov-2006 09:34 pm (UTC)
That movie is so overrated.
[info]rachyque 6th-Nov-2006 09:55 pm (UTC)

[info]jerrivalentine 6th-Nov-2006 09:34 pm (UTC)
A remake? Give me a break.

Hollywood filmmakers should be shot. Repeatedly.
[info]marierebecca 6th-Nov-2006 09:34 pm (UTC)
I don't care if they reincarnated Patrick Swayze for his role, this movie should be fucking remade. Ever. Sacriledge.
[info]ilikeandrewbird 6th-Nov-2006 09:34 pm (UTC)
hahaha. this is a dark comedy right?

mario lopez and joey russo are hilarious on that dancing show
[info]pikapika217 6th-Nov-2006 09:34 pm (UTC)
I need an icon like yours, only with Snape instead of Malfoy
[info]lovenoelg 6th-Nov-2006 09:35 pm (UTC)
He thinks he is such hot shit right now, but just wait until the Dancing show is over and it's back to co-hosting America Loves Videos of Dogs Peeing on Stuff.

Jackass.

Hey, has anyone directed you to this post yet? They're a lot fat lameasses trying to verify their fatness by ripping you and aurosan apart.

If someone already told you, sorry to bug you. I just remember having a couple good convos with you that day the "Plus 20 model" post came up. take care
[info]lovenoelg 7th-Nov-2006 01:46 am (UTC)
LOL wow. Those are some people seriously into the Internet. That Monique thread was SO fucking annoying. People just kept broadening the argument. I think Monique is seriously unfunny and a bad role model. This turned into I was a cunt who refuses to validate overweight people as humans. People are so unbelivably over-sensitive.

I am still getting comments, days later saying my nipple icon is pro-ana. How serious are people's weight issues that they look at that icon and only see her weight, and not her diseased, puffy nipple?

Anyway, thanks for the laugh. Good stuff.
[info]schexyschteve 6th-Nov-2006 09:35 pm (UTC)
WHAT????!!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.

Remaking movies that were originally shitty is okay. Remaking classics is not.
[info]tynkerbelle 6th-Nov-2006 09:36 pm (UTC)
Why can't they just come up with new ideas for movies and stop screwing up the classics?
[info]marierebecca 6th-Nov-2006 09:37 pm (UTC)
Your icon is quite apt. Cute.
[info]betterthanthat 7th-Nov-2006 12:59 am (UTC)
best part of the movie
