EWwy Awards 2014: Meet Your Winners

"Orphan Black" and "Parks and Rec" fans send a message, with salutes to Tatiana Maslany, Nick Offerman, and more snubbed by Emmys; after 317,000+ votes are cast, here are your TV MVPs

Best Drama Series
Network dramas shouldn't wave the white flag yet, at least when it comes to the EWwys: NBC's Hannibal defeated FX's Sons of Anarchy by 6,762 votes — this year's second largest margin of victory.
Hannibal — 39.66%
Sons of Anarchy — 18.45%
The Good Wife — 14.93%
Bates Motel — 12.08%
The Americans — 8.29%
Masters of Sex — 6.59%

Best Actor, Drama
Three-time Emmy winner James Spader earned his first EWwy for NBC's The Blacklist, which is unfortunate for Justified star Timothy Olyphant, who is now a three-time EWwy runner-up.
James Spader, The Blacklist — 29.64%
Timothy Olyphant, Justified — 19.59%
Charlie Hunnam, Sons of Anarchy — 17.09%
Freddie Highmore, Bates Motel — 12.6%
Matthew Rhys, The Americans — 7.87%
Tom Mison, Sleepy Hollow — 7.02%
Michael Sheen, Masters of Sex — 6.19%

Best Actress, Drama
Last year, Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany won this category with 42.77% percent of the vote. This year, the statement was even stronger: With 61.36%, she's the snub of the Emmys. Her margin of victory over Sons of Anarchy's always wonderful Katey Sagal: 15,823 votes.

Tatiana Maslany, Orphan Black — 61.36%
Katey Sagal, Sons of Anarchy — 12.56%
Vera Farmiga, Bates Motel — 11.44%
Elisabeth Moss, Mad Men — 5.81%
Keri Russell, The Americans — 5.54%
Mireille Enos, The Killing — 3.29%

Best Supporting Actor, Drama
An epic battle between two EWwy newcomers, Orphan Black's Jordan Gavaris and The Walking Dead's Norman Reedus, helped make this the category that received the most total votes (33,623). In the end, Gavaris earned the golden ewe by 783 votes.

Jordan Gavaris, Orphan Black — 34.02%
Norman Reedus, The Walking Dead — 31.69%
Charles Dance, Game of Thrones — 14.79%
Sam Jaeger, Parenthood — 8.47%
John Slattery, Mad Men — 6.02%
Peter Sarsgaard, The Killing — 5.01%

Best Supporting Actress, Drama
Fans of The Walking Dead also came out in support of Melissa McBride, but she, too, fell just shy of a win. Game of Thrones' Maisie Williams bested her by 308 votes—this year's second closest race.

Maisie Williams, Game of Thrones — 24.04%
Melissa McBride, The Walking Dead — 22.78%
Sandra Oh, Grey's Anatomy — 16.45%
Bellamy Young, Scandal — 15.43%
Maggie Siff, Sons of Anarchy — 13.18%
Erika Christensen, Parenthood — 8.12%

Best Guest Actor, Drama
Guest actor and actress categories are new to the EWwys this year. Here's to Game of Thrones' Prince Oberyn Martell, Pedro Pascal, coming out on top—for once.

Pedro Pascal, Game of Thrones — 35.16%
Walton Goggins, Sons of Anarchy — 17.71%
Isaiah Washington, Grey's Anatomy — 13.72%
Michael Pitt, Hannibal — 13.46%
John Noble, Sleepy Hollow — 10.91%
Michael Bowen, Breaking Bad — 9.03%

Best Guest Actress, Drama
The year's tightest race was a difference of only 37 votes. Sorry, Gladiators, but fans of The Good Wife and Carrie Preston, who won the guest Emmy last year for playing brilliant, quirky lawyer Elsbeth Tascioni, handled this.

Carrie Preston, The Good Wife — 27.35%
Lisa Kudrow, Scandal — 27.13%
Julianne Nicholson, Masters of Sex — 12.91%
Neve Campbell, Mad Men — 12.45%
Khandi Alexander, Scandal — 11.77%
Judith Light, Dallas — 8.37%

Best Comedy Series
For the second year in a row, NBC's Parks and Recreation took the top comedy prize. Spoiler alert: It's the first of three 2014 EWwy wins for the show.

Parks and Recreation — 40.98%
The Mindy Project — 26.08%
Brooklyn Nine-Nine — 19.37%
Enlisted — 6.53%
Broad City — 4.67%
Getting On — 2.37%

Best Variety Series
Another new category for the EWwys, it proved a hotly contested one: 650 votes separated first from sixth place. Comedy Central's Drunk History earned the inaugural trophy. We hope it remembers that in the morning.
Drunk History — 19.46%
Watch What Happens Live — 16.61%
Key & Peele — 16.38%
@midnight — 16.35%
Inside Amy Schumer — 16.16%
Portlandia — 15.03%

Best Actor, Comedy
The third time is the charm for Parks and Recreation's leading man, Adam Scott. After two years as the runner-up in this category, he earned his first EWwy, beating out Brooklyn Nine-Nine's Andy Samberg by 994 votes.
Adam Scott, Parks and Recreation — 29.81%
Andy Samberg, Brooklyn Nine-Nine — 23.82%
Chris Messina, The Mindy Project — 18.7%
Jonathan Groff, Looking — 16.57%
Thomas Middleditch, Silicon Valley — 6.17%
Stephen Merchant, Hello Ladies — 4.94%

Best Actress, Comedy
A runner-up in the Best Actress, Drama EWwy category last year, Shameless' decision to submit as a comedy instead paid off for Emmy Rossum, who took 47.23% of the vote. Perhaps less thrilled with the switch: The Mindy Project's Mindy Kaling, who once again finished second.

Emmy Rossum, Shameless — 47.23%
Mindy Kaling, The Mindy Project — 30.37%
Wendi McLendon-Covey, The Goldbergs — 13.71%
Niecy Nash, Getting On — 3.91%
Ilana Glazer, Broad City — 3.4%
Abbi Jacobson, Broad City — 1.37%

Best Supporting Actor, Comedy
Completing the Parks and Recreation hat trick, Nick Offerman scored his long overdue first EWwy for playing Ron Swanson with an even more impressive 52.54% of the vote.

Nick Offerman, Parks and Recreation — 52.54%
Parker Young, Enlisted — 13.53%
Timothy C. Simons, Veep — 12.99%
T.J. Miller, Silicon Valley — 9.52%
Keegan-Michael Key, Key & Peele — 7.74%
Jordan Peele, Key & Peele — 3.68%

Best Supporting Actress, Comedy
Like Ron Swanson, Eden Sher's Sue Heck made it onto EW's recent list of the 25 Best Characters on TV Right Now. So the star of ABC's The Middle has two reasons to celebrate.

Eden Sher, The Middle — 29.69%
Aidy Bryant, Saturday Night Live — 21.22%
Zosia Mamet, Girls — 15.17%
Marcia Gay Harden, Trophy Wife — 13.81%
Amy Schumer, Inside Amy Schumer — 12.57%
Carrie Brownstein, Portlandia — 7.55%

Best Guest Actor, Comedy
The ladies of Orange is the New Black dominate the guest actress category in the Emmys, so it somehow feels right that Pablo Schreiber (aka Pornstache) came out on top here.

Pablo Schreiber, Orange is the New Black — 34.95%
Christopher Meloni, Veep — 18.4%
Jonathan Banks, Community — 13.22%
Andrew Rannells, Girls — 12.63%
Drake, Saturday Night Live — 11.94%
Walton Goggins, Community — 8.86%

Best Guest Actress, Comedy
Mitch and Cam's wedding in the Modern Family season finale earned Nathan Lane a guest actor Emmy nod. And now, it's earned Elizabeth Banks (their friend Sal) her first EWwy.

Elizabeth Banks, Modern Family — 42.21%
Kerry Washington, Saturday Night Live — 24.13%
Sarah Baker, Louie — 12.34%
Gaby Hoffmann, Girls — 9%
Pamela Adlon, Louie — 6.38%
Molly Shannon, Getting On — 5.94%

I love the concept of this and agree with many of the nominees (Tim Simons! Broad City! Middleditch!) and several of the winners (Drunk History! Parks & Rec! Tatiana Maslany!) but how was Ben Schwartz not nominated for best comedy guest actor for his iconic portayal of Jean Ralphio?! Criminal.

People really like James Spader, huh?
twizzler_11 19th-Aug-2014 10:41 pm (UTC)
The episode where Jean Ralphio first appears was on syndication this weekend. Love it.

crucified 19th-Aug-2014 10:37 pm (UTC)
Why wasn't Mads Mikkelsen even nominated for best actor? I mean, it's still better than the actual Emmys but come on.
asuka4eva 19th-Aug-2014 11:50 pm (UTC)
They failed hard there.
twizzler_11 19th-Aug-2014 10:38 pm (UTC)
I only watch The Middle when I'm home because my mom's obsessed, but Sue is amazing. <3

Loving all the love for Parks. Wish it would get the attention of the Emmys though. I was hoping with Amy's win at the Globes that it might have given the show some momentum.
joansmalls 19th-Aug-2014 10:39 pm (UTC)
I'm still mad Peter Sarsgaard didn't get anything for The Killing. That was some of the realest acting I've seen in a long time.
georgiana08 19th-Aug-2014 11:03 pm (UTC)
He was amazing in that arc.
jess_sayin 19th-Aug-2014 10:40 pm (UTC)

getbacknow 19th-Aug-2014 10:44 pm (UTC)
people seriously voted for Neve Campbell for guest actress? lol did her single 2 minute scene really make an impact with people?

now that i think about it is carrie preston going to be free to be on the good wife more now that true blood is over? i am so hft
vikingsmn 19th-Aug-2014 10:44 pm (UTC)
Like the Emmys but better

LOL.
How the fuck was Mindy Kaling and The Mindy Project nominated and not Veep and Julia Louis-Dreyfus? Mindy Kaling is a TERRIBLE actress and The Mindy Project is garbage. Parks winning Best Comedy. The show hasn't been good since s3 and that time-jump finale was stupid. And Tom Mison nominated but NOT Nicole Beharie? No.
luvthatdrtywata 19th-Aug-2014 10:50 pm (UTC)
this is only for the shows/people who got snubbed. jld and veep are nominated for the actual emmys.
vikingsmn 19th-Aug-2014 10:54 pm (UTC)
i missed that part, and it was bolded and everything, lol. still will never understand the mindy project and mindy kaling love.
evett 19th-Aug-2014 10:51 pm (UTC)
This is meant for people/shows that didn't get nominated in the actual emmys. Veep and JLD are nominated in the real Emmys.
americnxidiot 19th-Aug-2014 10:52 pm (UTC)
veep and JLD were nominated for emmys. you missed the point of this.
hateistoodark 19th-Aug-2014 11:32 pm (UTC)
Veep gets legit praise lol
funhouse 19th-Aug-2014 10:45 pm (UTC)
Adam Scott tho... really?
vikingsmn 19th-Aug-2014 10:47 pm (UTC)
Right!? Tbh that entire category isn't anything special.
justkeepworking 19th-Aug-2014 10:49 pm (UTC)
I don't get why It's always Sunny... wasn't in the comedy category.
evett 19th-Aug-2014 10:46 pm (UTC)
Brooklyn Nine-Nine deserves better than 3rd place
