You Will Get a Chance to See 'Eleanor Rigby' The Way It Was Intended To Be Seen

Ned Benson's "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby" was a sensation with audiences at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival when it screened as it was intended -- as two films (one titled "Him," the other "Her") played back to back. "Him" takes on the perspective of the James McAvoy's character, who's dealing with a rough breakup, while "Her" centers on that of his ex, played by Jessica Chastain.

The Weinstein Company, who acquired the film out of Toronto, premiered a new version titled "Them" at Cannes this May that cut down the original three-hour running time to a more commercial friendly two-hour one, but sacrificed what made the project so special in the first place. So it was a sad day when The Weinstein Company announced they'd be releasing "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them" on September 12 in select theaters, with no mention of the longer cut.

Well, our prayers have been answered. Today comes news that they will open "The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Him/Her" on October 10 in select theaters.

Which version do you plan on checking out?

can't wait to see the final cut <3
nyyankeegirl 8th-Aug-2014 04:06 am (UTC)
Harvey Weinstein's final cut as opposed to the director's cut?
glittergary 8th-Aug-2014 04:19 am (UTC)
yep! already seen him and her
rainstormraider 8th-Aug-2014 02:29 am (UTC)
"The Weinstein Company" - I stopped reading after this. Its bound to be a clusterfuck but I will still stream it illegally.
supertex 8th-Aug-2014 02:30 am (UTC)
i'll see Them and Her for sure.
bellwetherr 8th-Aug-2014 02:34 am (UTC)
But not Him?
supertex 8th-Aug-2014 02:47 am (UTC)
i'm only into this for jessica, so that's why i'm not sure i'll watch Him just yet. i haven't ruled it out, but i know i'll see at least two of the three films.

The real question is......will it leak in two parts or will that BS-sounding "them" cut will be the one to watch the light of the internet????
wheresandrae 8th-Aug-2014 04:33 am (UTC)
Imo there likely won't be screeners sent out for him/her come oscar time. We'll have to wait for the VOD rip or the early bluray/dvd to get him/her online

aw damn
holyfrijoles_2 8th-Aug-2014 02:35 am (UTC)
I hope I get to see the fully realized cut. Although ngl, I'm going to have to train myself to sit through ~3 hour movies. I got ansty during Blue is the Warmest Color even though I was genuinely enjoying that film.

I found this one a breeze, and I also tend to get antsy during long movies. After it was over, all I wanted to do was sit down and watch it a second time. I can't wait for it to be released.
derrobitch 8th-Aug-2014 02:37 am (UTC)
this is why this film isn't going to get any oscar traction. the whole release and the fact it's technically three different films is too messy. #PrayForAMostViolentYear

I hope Jessica and Oscar kill it cause as much as Im loving the feel of this movie, it doesn't look
like a film for the oscar..it's giving One Day/50 days of summer feels
beating_heartss 8th-Aug-2014 03:06 am (UTC)
That's not necessarily true. They'll submit "them" to be considered for awards. "Him" and "her" would probably be a special screening of some kind for members. idk I think they are going to eat this shit up.
derrobitch 8th-Aug-2014 03:13 am (UTC)
i would put money on it being true. there is absolutely nothing to indicate AMPAS will respond to this film at all, it's a twee arthouse flick with a confusing release plan. harvey's main horse for best actress will be amy adams, his main horse for best picture will be the imitation game. this will fall by the wayside.
guccipucci 8th-Aug-2014 04:41 am (UTC)
I don't think this film was ever made w/ the intention to get Oscar noms.
srslyy 8th-Aug-2014 02:39 am (UTC)
i thought that was david duchovny in the first pic
ms_mmelissa 8th-Aug-2014 02:44 am (UTC)
I guess I'll see them and then pirate him/her.
dracopet 8th-Aug-2014 02:47 am (UTC)
That YT still looks awful. Sometimes I feel like she's not so beautiful
rlmoonyk 8th-Aug-2014 02:49 am (UTC)
Too much work for a movie that doesn't seen particularly interesting
vilandra212 8th-Aug-2014 03:03 am (UTC)
I just hope it opens here, my local theatre is usually pretty good with these type of movies so I'm hopeful. I'd like to see him/her first but I'll take them.
beating_heartss 8th-Aug-2014 03:04 am (UTC)
These are one of the many reasons why I love living in Los Angeles because I know that it will be one of the cities it will be screened as Him and Her versions.
endingonfire 8th-Aug-2014 03:08 am (UTC)
I really want to see all three (Him, Them, and finally Her, because I remember an ONTDer suggesting that order), but I'm already crying for my numb ass at having to sit so long in a theatre seat. I hope they're not too long tbh.
addictedgal 8th-Aug-2014 03:22 am (UTC)
Yay I look forward to watching it however it was intended. More time to see McAvoy on screen so I'm good.
