Victoria Beckham has owned 13 incredible engagement rings

Most women see their engagement ring as a lasting – and singular – symbol of love. But not, it appears, Victoria Beckham.

The singer-turned-designer seems to regard it as a fashion accessory, getting through an astonishing 13 engagement rings in 15 years of marriage to husband David.

Experts yesterday valued her collection of diamonds, emeralds and sapphires at up to £3.8million, charting the rise in her fortunes. When David proposed in 1998, her first engagement ring was a diamond cut into an elongated ‘marquise’ shape, set on a yellow gold band, said to have cost around £65,000.

She later had the ring reset on a diamond studded band and in 2002 was seen wearing a simple diamond-encrusted band estimated at £5,000.

Since then, her tastes appear to have grown ever more expensive... in 2005, she wore a £159,000 diamond pear cut

In 2006, the designer opted for a yellow hued baguette engagement ring worth £250,000.

At Wimbledon this year Mrs Beckham, 40, opted for a £100,000 yellow diamond set in yellow gold.

And one of her favourites is a square cut emerald with surrounding diamonds, put at £500,000.

In 2009, Mrs Beckham wore a £500,000 diamond on a diamond band when she attended a Marc Jacobs fashion show

The most expensive appears to be a huge heart-shaped diamond thought to be worth in excess of £1million.

Her collection was valued for the Daily Mail by jewellery maker Steve Bennett, who said some may be loaned by her friends in the jewellery business.

He added: ‘I’ve never known a woman to chop and change her engagement ring as she does. She clearly sees no reason not to treat it like any other fashion accessory.

‘Victoria is not afraid to wear quite adventurous styles. She opts for rare cuts or less common stones such as emeralds or sapphires.’
