Uruguayans react angrily as FIFA ban their hero Luis Suarez

Uruguayans reacted angrily on Thursday after FIFA suspended their star striker Luis Suarez for nine matches for biting Italian defender Giorgio Chiellini, with many slamming the ban as exaggerated, hypocritical, or even biased.

"They're acting as if he were a criminal, a terrorist," said Maria Cardozo, a 48 year-old administrative worker. "They're exaggerating the aggression although I do think it warranted some sort of punishment."

Suarez is synonymous with controversy in much of the world. He has twice before been banned for biting and had to sit out eight matches for racially abusing Manchester United's Patrice Evra
But in small, football-crazed Uruguay, the Liverpool forward is a major hero that his compatriots have passionately defended him.

Some were quickly calling foul on Thursday and blasting global soccer body FIFA's judgment, which leaves Uruguay without its main scorer against Colombia on Saturday in the first knockout round.

"I don't want to get into conspiracy theories, but it seems that FIFA isn't interested in letting small countries such as Uruguay advance," said 62-year-old lawyer Andres Ramirez.

How can people seriously defend this guy? They went easy on him; this sort of behavior warrants a two-year (and possibly lifetime) ban.

Please, he got off so easy. Dude is clearly out of his damn mind.
aflaminghalo 27th-Jun-2014 12:34 am (UTC)
The problem is that he's obviously developed a taste for flesh, and once you get that you don't get rid of it...

The thing that really pisses me off is that he'd really started to behave better and I wasn't cringing every time he came on, worrying about what he'd do. All gone.

Suarez is a fucking psychopath, he should get a lifetime ban but FIFA ain't about shit so...

I find it pretty disturbing that not only did he BITE someone and it was the third time he's done this but he then faked an injury straight after! That's insane! I genuinely am concerned for the women in his life.

He's a racist, violent scumbag and his stans can seethe tbh

Doesn't this asswipe have a history of bad behaviours even in the premier league?

Idk if this was posted, but Wright Thompson's piece on the reaction in Uruguay is illuminating http://www.espnfc.com/blog/wright-thompson/94/post/1914166/wright-thompson----the-view-of-luis-suarez-from-uruguay

My mom was saying that the banning was too much, so I told her about the racism abuse he did to Evra, then she was happy he was banned lmao. He has issues, I hope he sorts them but for now, bye !

This guy has big issues, its's the third time he did this.
silentxstrom 27th-Jun-2014 12:44 am (UTC)
Uruguay's whole team are such flops. I'm not surprised that the team is defending him, if they turned on him while representing their country, it wouldn't look good. I need the Colombian team to SLAY next week and send them home.
setembro 27th-Jun-2014 12:46 am (UTC)
Too bad they are going home on monday. I am thirsty for some uruguaian dick, they are everywhere in Rio.
prdarkstar 27th-Jun-2014 12:50 am (UTC)
They're obsessed with football so all they care about is winning. Everything else is irrelevant.
angelofdeath275 27th-Jun-2014 12:51 am (UTC)
so some of them want a racist rapid dog representing them
bmo 27th-Jun-2014 12:52 am (UTC)
i think banning him that long was too much. banning him for the rest of the world cup i guess makes sense to me but affecting his other games is too much imo? with that said i hope suarez gets help because idk how biting a person even comes to mind.

i hope the rest of the team does well since everyone's expecting them to lose now and i was rooting for them in the first place :( and idk why anyone's surprised the team is defending him. it would look bad if they didn't since suarez also represents their country.
agentnever 27th-Jun-2014 12:57 am (UTC)
Banning someone-who has bitten 3 people on the pitch, punched another, racially abused someone, and openly celebrated a missed penalty kicked that he caused- for 4 months is too much?
silentxstrom 27th-Jun-2014 01:01 am (UTC)
FIFA should give him a 2 yr ban and Uruguay and Liverpool should completely drop him from their roster indefinitely, but that won't happen. he makes too much $$$ for them and Liverpool.
bmo 27th-Jun-2014 01:03 am (UTC)
the thing is if u take all that into account 4 months is obv not too much but for this particular thing imo it is! especially when i saw the way some italian players tried to kick the uruguayan players.

i do understand where ur all coming from though.

also didn't he get banned for the other times he bit the other people? (question because i dont really know!)

piratesswoop 27th-Jun-2014 01:00 am (UTC)
this is the THIRD time he's bitten someone and the fifth high-profile incident he's been involved in. if he didn't learn his lesson the first time it happened, and he keeps doing it, he has to face the consequences. imo the ban wasn't long enough.
winniechili 27th-Jun-2014 01:01 am (UTC)
Really? You think banning someone WHO HAS BITTEN OTHER PEOPLE ON MULTIPLE OCCASSIONS is too harsh? What is wrong with you?
coeurtranquille 27th-Jun-2014 01:07 am (UTC)

Seems like someone has a soft spot for the pos
funk2funky 27th-Jun-2014 01:11 am (UTC)
No it wasn't too much, he needed to be banned from play for a year at the very least imo. There is a well documented pattern of violent and unsportsmanlike behavior coming from this grown ass man, and he needs to pay for that since he hasn't learned his lesson.
